“I’m tired of it,” Chris Bosh said (according to sun-sentinel.com), when asked if there was anything to take away from the game. “All of these moral victories, we can put that on the shelf. Either you win the game or you lose the game.”
That quote paired with a Dwyane Wade middle finger was all you needed to see to know how the 2014-15 NBA season has gone for the Miami Heat. It’s a shame that it took a one-point loss to the Charlotte Hornets — one game past the midway point of the year — for the team to finally show some public disappointment.
Seemingly gone are quips about patience and the process of gelling as a new team. The complaints about injuries are still there, but those are warranted. However, no one cares.
The Heat are starting to realize that teams are getting just as much joy in kicking them while they are down as they did squeaking out a win when they were a powerhouse, bulldozing people when they were not even trying.
Unfortunately for the Heat, underachieving will not work without the best player in the game jogging around in their warmups. Which is why they find themselves tied for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and a half game away from not making the postseason at all.
That’s the new reality for Miami following four years of the highest highs. Yet they still should not be experiencing these lows. Not with Wade playing at such a high level and Chris Bosh and Luol Deng on the team. But this is the big leagues and there will be no sympathy for the weak.
