There is plenty of speculation surrounding Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant’s NBA future. Most assume he will be back after suffering a torn rotator cuff, while others believe he will be wise to hang it up.
With surgery set for Wednesday and a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him, Bryant already has his eyes set on bringing Los Angeles another championship in 2015-16.
Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times tweeted the following in regard to Bryant and his playing future:
Those around Kobe say he is definitively coming back to play next season. Doesn’t want to go out like this.

As interesting as it is that Bryant has already made it known he will forgo retirement, it is Bresnahan’s second tweet that has caught the attention of many:
Source: Kobe will also be active in free-agent recruiting for the Lakers, including pitches to possible future teammates in July.

The 36-year-old has 25 million reasons to play out the final year of his contract. But, those who believe it is all about the money are very wrong.
There is no denying $25 million is a lot of money, even to someone who has a net worth over $250 million. However, Bryant is not interested in the checks the Lakers will write for him. He is interested in bringing big names and young talent to Los Angeles so that he can give the franchise one more championship before he rides into the sunset.
With a current record of 12-33, the Lakers have a long ways to go between now and next season if they want to become legitimate contenders. With that said, Bryant putting all of his energy into making the Los Angeles better in any way he can just might be the ultimate difference maker. Even though cutting his contract in half would certainly help on its own, which is something Bryant refuses to do, using his status to bring in players of interest could go a long ways to improving the franchise even after he retires.
Bryant has his eyes set on going out a champion. From the looks of it, it will most likely take longer than 2015-16 for that to happen. If he brings in the free agents he desires, the Lakers will give him a contract to play longer. That means another championship still could be in Bryant’s future before he calls it a career.
