Hassan Whiteside exploded back onto the NBA scene last week when he went off for a triple double, although he didn’t do it the conventional way. He had 14 points, 13 rebounds and 12 blocks—count em, 12—in only 24 minutes off the bench.
Tonight, he solidified his case to remain in the starting lineup for the Miami Heat, going off for 14 rebounds—a franchise record— in the first quarter alone. Despite losing, Whiteside finished with 16 points and 24 rebounds, becoming the first Heat player since Shaquille O’Neal to have such a game. No Heat player in the last 20 years has had 24 rebounds in a game.
Oh look, he just grabbed another board.
