5 Players Who Are Not Living Up To Their New Contract

With the All-Star break taking place, now would be a good time to evaluate how this past offseason's signings have panned out. For some, this past summer proved to be major successes, while others are still finding their respective ways. Then there are those who have struggled to the adjustment of a new scene, and possibly a new role. These are the five players who are underperforming most under their new contracts.

Despite being an effective wing for the Mavericks, Parsons’ numbers have been down across the board in his first season with Dallas. Parsons signed a three-year deal with Dallas, which was too rich an offer for the Houston Rockets to match. The deal makes Parsons the highest paid player on the Mavs. More importantly, for Parsons to live up to his contract, he will have to perform at a higher level moving forward for Dallas to be successful.
4) Spencer Hawes – Los Angeles Clippers: - $5.3 Million – 6.4PPG, 3.8RPG, 42.9FG%

The Clippers fended off Portland for Hawes’ services this past offseason. They signed Hawes with a bargain offer, using their mid-level exception to do so. However, the Clippers have not seen a big payoff as of yet, as Hawes has seen limited minutes behind Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan for the most part. Recent injuries have forced Hawes into the starting lineup, and the Clippers need him to deliver as expected if they are to be successful.
3) Channing Frye – Orlando Magic: $8.6 Million – 7.6PPG, 4.2RPG, 39.2FG%

The Orlando Magic were in need of a solid veteran presence to help mentor their young core of talent. Channing Frye accepted the call, with a four-year deal to leave Phoenix for Orlando. Frye’s numbers are way down, and his play has become sporadic as of late. Frye’s lackluster performance has resulted in a minute reduction recently, as he now finds himself without much value, despite being the team’s highest paid player.
2) Lance Stephenson – Charlotte Hornets: $9 Million – 9.0PPG, 5.6RPG, 4.9 APG, 37.1FG%

The Charlotte Hornets thought they struck gold after signing Stephenson to a three-year deal to team with a core, which already featured Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker. The former Indiana Pacer has been a tremendous disappointment, with Stephenson already being mentioned in trade rumors. Stephenson is now relegated to coming off the bench, a move head coach Steve Clifford, says is permanent for the rest of the season.
1) Carmelo Anthony – New York Knicks: Salary - $22.5 Million – 24.2PPG, 6.6RPG, 44.4FG%

As one of the premiere free agents this past offseason, Carmelo Anthony had his share of suitors. He chose to re-sign with the Knicks for five years, at the near max level. Unfortunately, the Knicks have been an atrocity this season, possessing the league’s worst record. Anthony has missed plenty of time already, as the team is just 10-30 with him, and 0-13 without him. Anthony’s numbers are also down, which is a bad sign of things to come.
