Okay – hope you’re prepared for one of the craziest trades we’ve ever seen. Thursday’s NBA Trade Deadline started with a flurry of relatively small trades and finished with a wild, crazy, and frankly mind-boggling trade.
According to several sources, mostly Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports and ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers, and Boston Celtics agreed to a four-team trade resulting in several point guards and first-round draft picks changing teams.
We’ll update it as all the final details come in, but to our knowledge, here’s what each team acquired in this insane trade:
Milwaukee Bucks: Michael Carter-Williams, Tyler Ennis, Miles Plumlee
Phoenix Suns: Brandon Knight, Marcus Thornton, Kendall Marshall, Cavaliers’ 2016 1st Round Pick
Philadelphia 76ers: Lakers (via Suns) 2015 1st Round Pick (1-5 protected)
Boston Celtics: Isaiah Thomas
The Bucks swapped Brandon Knight for another 23-year-old point guard in Michael Carter-Williams. The Suns, after trading Goran Dragic to the Miami Heat earlier in the day for two first-round picks, replaced him with Knight and sent Thomas to the 76ers for Thornton and Cleveland’s first-rounder. Philadelphia continues loading up on first-round picks and they clearly weren’t sold on Carter-Williams as their franchise point guard. Boston, already loaded with picks, made the easy choice in trading the Cavaliers’ pick, which should be late in the first round, and Thornton for Thomas.
At this point, it makes little sense to make out the winners and losers of the trade considering the draft picks involved. We’ll continue updating this post if more details become available.
