For some odd reason, the Miami Heat and Michael Beasley have a pull that always brings the two side back together. The Heat signed the small forward with 24 games left in the season, hoping he might bring a little extra firepower at the three spot for a cheap price. The relationship didn’t exactly work out as Miami missed the playoffs, but Beasley did put on some decent performances, including a career high 34 points to end the season.
Well, now it is the offseason and there is a free agency class full of quality and quantity. Pat Riley has some sort of plan in his head to rebuild this team back to the top of the NBA, but it does not include Beasley, who has a $1.2 million team option.
More than likely, Riley will let Beasley go to either make room for Goran Dragic and his max contract or another big free agent signing. Honestly, the Beasley signing toward the end of the season was an attempt to make a playoff push and fill the void of Chris Bosh. Now, with Josh McRoberts and Bosh both returning from injuries and Luol Deng more than likely to pick up his $10 million option, there isn’t exactly room for Beasley.
Beasley is like that one kid the teacher refuses to give up on and Riley is the teacher. This was his third stint with the team and none of them have exactly produced the results the franchise was aiming for. There is a slight chance that Miami holds on to Beasley as a role player, but his fate all depends on Dragic and his decision. Beasley will be okay, though; Riley will probably re-sign him in a year or two.
