The New York Knicks are looking to build around Carmelo Anthony. Seriously.

The 30-year-old Anthony has incinerated so much cash that the Knicks are now labeling this ball-stopper “an investment.” At best Anthony is what you’d call a “1A” and at worst is what you saw with the Knicks cascading into the 2015 NBA Draft lottery.

And why should you believe any of this? Well there’s this for starters:

Also, according to RealGM, the Knicks aren’t looking to rebuild. With the No. 4 pick putting New York likely out of range for either Karl-Anthony Towns or Jahlil Okafor, the Knicks are now willing to shop this pick for pieces that will immediately aid in flanking Anthony.

If I weren’t what I’d consider a sane person, I’d say the Knicks were wise with this reasoning. But let’s look at who’s been drafted at No. 4 historically: Tristan Thompson – 2011, Russell Westbrook – 2008, Mike Conley Jr. – 2007, Chris Paul – 2005 and Chris Bosh – 2003. Yep, I don’t see any cornerstones to a franchise there.

Sarcasm aside, I hope that if New York does deal this pick, they end up finding a team that’ll sell the farm for it.
