With just about eight hours to go until NBA Free Agency begins, the San Antonio Spurs are working hard to clear cap space. It’s no secret the team plans to go all out to sign LaMarcus Aldridge, but they still need to shed some contracts to make that a more realistic possibility.
According to Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News, the Spurs are working on a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers that would bring Brendan Haywood and his $10.5 million non-guaranteed contract to San Antonio.

Moving Haywood allows the Cavaliers to take on a large contract while allowing the team that takes his non-guaranteed contract to clear cap room for free agency.
Tiago Splitter, Patty Mills, and Boris Diaw are the three players most likely to be moved as part of any deal because of the size of their contracts. At this stage of his career, Haywood would not help the Spurs on the court and will likely be waived, but this trade is still well worth it if it means Aldridge is wearing a Spurs jersey next season.
