The Cleveland Cavaliers have already been very busy this offseason and are obviously looking to bring in as much talent as they can to make a run back to the NBA Finals in 2015-16. Kevin Love and Iman Shumpert have both re-signed, while Tristan Thompson and Matthew Dellavedova are both in the process of working on deals. Despite all of that money being spent already, the Cavaliers are looking at bringing in one particular free agent from the outside.

According to a report from Chris Haynes, the Cavaliers are showing interest in signing free agent guard Rodney Stuckey.

Stuckey came through with a big season for the Indiana Pacers last year and showed major improvement in his game. He was signed to a one-year deal to help replace Lance Stephenson, but no one expected to see Stuckey play as well as he did.

Stuckey ended up averaging 12.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. One of his biggest weaknesses heading into the season was considered to be his three-point shooting, but he showed major improvement by knocking down 39 percent of his three-point attempts. He was very aggressive offensively, and was more than willing to come off the bench and do whatever it took for the Pacers to be successful.

LeBron James and the Cavaliers could use some more scoring off of their bench. Stuckey would have to fight for minutes with Shumpert and Dellavedova, but the Cavaliers would find a way to get him consistent minutes. Whether the Cavaliers have the type of money that Stuckey is looking for or not is another question.

It would be a perfect fit for the Cavaliers to say the very least. Stuckey is a hard-nosed player who would bring leadership and experience to the Cavaliers’ bench.

Since free agency opened up, Stuckey has been very adamant that he wants to sign with a contender. Cleveland won’t have a ton of money to spend on him, but that might not bother Stuckey either. He is without question deserving of the full mid-level exception, but there is a chance that he would take less than that in order to sign with a contender like the Cavaliers are expected to be.

Plenty of teams around the NBA could use a player with Stuckey’s skill set, and there are other teams that could offer him a more lucrative contract. Despite that fact, the Cavaliers are going to do everything they can to sign him. He is exactly the type of glue player championship teams need, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up taking a discount in order to play alongside of James in Cleveland.
