Evan Fournier has a last name that nobody in their right mind should Google (seriously, don’t look it up if you have a weak stomach), but despite the weird surname, the Frenchman is becoming a primetime player for the Orlando Magic. Although Victor Oladipo, Nikola Vucevic and Tobias Harris have been playing as the big three that Orlando needs them to become, it’s Fournier who has been the driver for the Magic’s high-powered offense early on.
Through the first seven games of this young NBA season, Fournier is averaging a team-high 18.7 PPG while shooting nearly 48 percent from the field, including hitting 37 percent of his 3-point shots, which is welcomed news to a Magic team that needed consistent perimeter shooting.
The truth is, Fournier has always been solid with the basketball, but it wasn’t until he landed in Orlando that everyone finally starting to take notice. Back in November of last year, I said people needed to start taking a look at Fournier due to his immense offensive skills, and called him the Magic’s “secret weapon.” Well, the secret weapon has been unleashed and the results were just as I expected.
If Fournier can continue to play at this pace, Orlando will be a pretty tough team to beat once everything comes together.
