Ryan Anderson’s future with the New Orleans Pelicans is up in the air with his contract set to end after this season, making him a target for multiple teams as the trade deadline approaches. Just like New Orleans, the Washington Wizards are struggling, but they have a lot of talent and would highly benefit from having a new face.
Since being drafted 21st by the Brooklyn Nets out of California in the 2008 NBA Draft, the only season Anderson started every game he played with the Orlando Magic from 2011-12. There is no doubt he has the caliber to be a starter, but with Anthony Davis playing the same position, that opportunity will never come with the Pelicans.
Since Anderson has the shooting ability of a guard even though he is 6-feet 10-inches, the Wizards could try something different by playing him and small forward and moving Otto Porter to shooting guard. Having a lineup featuring Nene, Marcin Gortat, and Anderson would be tough for any coach to figure out. This is just a thought, but Randy Wittman could also just as easily place Anderson at power forward and then figure out what he wants to do with Nene or Gortat.
Washington would most likely have to trade away Kelly Oubre Jr., a young player who New Orleans could develop (especially if they trade away Tyreke Evans), which should not be much of a problem since the former Kansas star is not seeing much playing time. Kris Humphries or Jared Dudley, as well as any other supporting pieces for economical purposes, would have to be included in the deal.
Wizards fans are so focused on bringing Kevin Durant to the district next year, but for now, Ryan Anderson to DC may be the best bet. He is certainly an option and would bring Washington back into the playoff picture.
