The Milwaukee Bucks have made it clear that they have no intention of trading Jabari Parker anytime soon, and this is wise on their part. But they have also implied that their point guard is definitely on the market, and this doesn’t seem intelligent or fair.
The Bucks still don’t know what they have in Michael Carter-Williams. He could turn out to be a more lanky version of Jason Kidd, or he could end up being out of the league in a few years. The bottom line is that no one knows yet. The Bucks only traded for the PG last season, and he played reasonably well in the playoffs against the Chicago Bulls despite a lack of practice time in Milwaukee. That is a player who isn’t afraid of the moment, and the Bucks should keep him around until at least the summer.
They are saying publicly that they’ll retain him, but Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports makes a great point here.
Guard Michael Carter-Williams has been told by the Bucks that he would not be traded, a source said, but the Sixers told him the same thing.

Carter-Williams is averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game this season, and he is also recording the best field-goal percentage of his career at 45.3 percent. Part of the problem is his 3-point shooting. He is only making 28.9 percent of his deep shots, but that is the best of his career as well. What these numbers indicate is that Carter-Williams continues working on his game, and coach Kidd of all people should know it is possible to develop a reliable jumper late in a point guard’s career. The Bucks probably won’t make the playoffs this year, but that doesn’t mean they should give up on a young player with loads of potential.
Carter-Williams’ finest basketball is ahead of him, and Milwaukee would regret trading him. The Bucks should just stand pat for now and see how the point guard responds to all the adversity this season.
