After not being able to work out a deal with the Houston Rockets for Ty Lawson, the Utah Jazz quickly turned their attention to the Atlanta Hawks for veteran guard help in the form of Shelvin Mack. Whereas Lawson’s services would’ve cost the Jazz Trey Burke, Mack comes much cheaper with only a second-round pick heading to the Hawks.

With Alec Burks out with a broken leg, the Jazz have turned to Raul Neto, Burke and Rodney Hood as the main guards in the rotation. But aside from Hood, there’s been a lot left to be desired. Adding Mack will give head coach Quin Snyder another veteran option to turn to as the Jazz try and lock up a playoff spot down the stretch.
The trade will also reunite Mack with former Butler teammate Gordon Hayward which can only help him feel more comfortable heading into a new place. Don’t be surprised if Mack ends up becoming a vital piece of the stretch run for the Jazz.
