Thursday’s NBA trade deadline came and went without any big names moving around the league, and the Los Angeles Lakers made no deals involving notable names or otherwise. Guard Nick Young had been mentioned as someone the Lakers would like to trade, and rightfully so as they look to unload veterans, but there was no real indication publicly that other teams had any interest in him at all.
On Wednesday, apparently thinking the trade deadline was a day earlier than it was, Young celebrated the fact he was still a Laker upon arriving at the team’s facility.
Here are some tweets from three different beat reporters that cover the Lakers:
Turns out Nick Young thought yesterday was trade deadline when he entered Lakers’ facility + expressed joy to still be with them. Oh, Swaggy

Nick Young said he thought the trade deadline was yesterday. so when he showed up at practice yesterday, he said, “I’m still a Laker!”

Nick Young thought the trade deadline was yesterday. Byron Scott: “I don’t think Nick pays a whole lot of attention to current events.”

With Young’s ‘Swaggy P’ persona on and off the floor, his level of obliviousness about something as significant as the trade deadline is no surprise. Head coach Byron Scott reflected that sentiment, via the comments passed along by Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, which surely further inspired a collective head nod of understanding from the Lakers’ fanbase.
