Who would want to face Damian Lillard these days?
Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers‘ star point guard, is using anger to push his team into the playoffs this season. So the next question is what is Lillard so angry about?
Well, he has a multitude of reasons to be angry. First, nobody gave his Blazers a chance to succeed when LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland’s longtime franchise star, packed his bags and moved to Texas. All of a sudden, you had media pundits thinking that Portland was a dead team playing with only one star running the show.
Then, if that wasn’t enough, his snub from the All-Star game was what sent him over the cliff, and I fully agree with why Lillard would be angry at the snub. If it wasn’t for Stephen Curry, Lillard would easily be the NBA‘s best point guard, a player who has all of the similarities to Curry with one exception – Lillard can attack the rim.
Second, he, along with the rise of C.J. McCollum, has kept the Blazers in contention within the tough Western Conference, with Lillard being among the league’s top scorers at over 25 points a game. That alone should have earned Lillard a reserve spot in the All-Star game, but he was kept out. But instead of turning the other cheek, Lillard went off on the court.
With Lillard playing out of his mind right now, the Blazers have a great shot at getting to the playoffs and sending a message to Aldridge and the rest of the NBA that he can be a player the team can build around. And when he’s angry, just get out of his way.
