New Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks is certainly making an impact in his first week on the job. After buying out Andrea Bargnani, Marks has reportedly turned his attention to Joe Johnson as the two sides are negotiating a buyout of the rest of Johnson’s contract that would make him a free agent immediately.
The move makes perfect sense for the Nets, as Johnson is on the last year of his deal and there’s zero chance of the team re-signing him as they turn their attention towards a rebuild. It will now open up a starting spot in the lineup which will give the young players an opportunity to earn a roster spot for next season.
As for Johnson, there’s already been a whole list of suitors for his services. The Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics have all been rumored to have interest in the 34-year-old who’s averaging 11.8 points, 4.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds this season.
