When Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant came out for warm-ups on Thursday night, there was something noticeably different about his appearance. At first glance, it looked as if he was wearing orange knee-high socks, but upon further review, they weren’t socks at all.

Your eyes are not deceiving you. Those are most certainly Nikes that extend all the way up to Durant’s calf. According to Sneaker News, they’re a prototype designed by Nike to provide “additional security and lockdown.”

Nike has always been the leading innovator in sports shoes. That being said, I couldn’t help but think that I had seen something like this before, but I couldn’t place it. Finally, someone brought it to my attention and it all clicked.
