The Dallas Mavericks had a good start to the season, after an up and down offseason that saw them lose out on one of the better free agents available. They still had a strong core and managed to find some role players, although it was unclear if they would be able to compete at a level that they had in the past. Yet they managed to overcome some early injuries, and looked as if their best players were starting to hit their stride as the season continued. Unfortunately, they have hit a rough patch as of late, and now must focus on making up lost ground if they want to make the playoffs.
The Mavericks are currently battling for one of the last playoff spots, and are on the outside looking in. They have been unable to close out games and beat opponents that they should be getting wins against, especially in the past month. Losing Chandler Parsons for the rest of the season has certainly hurt, but the team has enough talent on their roster to make a last push into the playoffs. They have guys that have won before, as well as players who know what it takes to win in the fourth quarter.
It has been tough for the organization as a whole as they lose important games in a very tight playoff race, especially after all that has happened the past year. The Mavericks continually put off a rebuild because they are able to find resourceful players who can make an impact, and have a very good coach who is able to put his team in a position to succeed. There are still enough games left where the team can make a run, but they must do a better job of finishing teams off down the stretch.
