The Milwaukee Bucks have had a tough season, but still have a lot to look forward to in the future. They have a young core with loads of potential, and should be a team to watch. They have had trouble meshing their skill sets as a team, but will continue to grow with another offseason to work on their game. They have the pieces in place to be a force in the East, and now must focus on putting the right players around their current starters. This means that they will likely have to move on from some of their current contributors, and O.J. Mayo is one player who will likely be playing for a different team next season.
Mayo entered the league with a lot of potential and got off to a strong start in his career. He was a capable scorer with a developing outside shot, and had the talent to be a major contributor. He remained a good scorer, but his impact on games decreased, and injuries have slowed down his progress. This is arguably his worst season so far, as his shooting numbers are down and he is averaging below double-digit points. He is no longer the same playmaker, and hasn’t had much success with the Bucks this year.
The Bucks will have some money to make moves in free agency, and they should strongly consider moving on from Mayo this offseason. He still has enough ability to find a role as a rotation player, but he may just need a change of environment to get his career back on track. The Bucks need to do a better job of putting the right pieces around their young core, and finding the right skill sets to support them.
