With a group of promising young players in place, another lottery pick coming in June and the possibility to have total control over personnel, a strong argument can be made for the Minnesota Timberwolves as the most appealing available head coaching job in the NBA right now. Tom Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy have been put at the top of the list of potential candidates at this point, but another notable name is set to interview with Minnesota.
AP Source: The Timberwolves will interview former Warriors coach and ESPN analyst Mark Jackson for the coaching job

Jackson currently serves as a game analyst for ESPN and ABC, alongside Van Gundy as it were. Prior to that he served as head coach of the Golden State Warriors for three seasons, with a 121-109 regular season record and two playoff appearances (9-10 postseason record) over that time. Warriors players loved Jackson, but his clashes with management led to his firing and opened the door for Steve Kerr to be hired and take the team to new heights.
Jackson was a finalist for the Timberwolves’ job back when Kurt Rambis was hired, so it can be assumed he still carries some familiarity for owner Glen Taylor. That alone could be a red flag, with Taylor’s noted insular and at times clueless approach to hiring people. It’s worth questioning if Jackson is a serious candidate to become the next Timberwolves head coach, and he may render that moot if he comes off poorly in the meeting. But I still see an interview with Jackson as a step outside the box and a positive development.
