In just four seasons since being drafted fifth overall out of Kansas by the Sacramento Kings in the 2012 NBA Draft, Thomas Robinson has played for five different franchises. If the Brooklyn Nets are smart, Robinson will once again be with a new franchise at the beginning of next season.
This past year, Robinson managed to make it a whole season with the Nets, which is only the second time in his career he started and ended a season on the same team. He has to be a problem in the locker room because no franchise seems to want to keep this guy around.
It’s also fairly easy to notice that even with the coaching and training staff available across the league, Robinson has been unable to turn himself into a better basketball player. His stats are not getting better and he is remaining at the same level he has been at since he entered the NBA. He’s not getting any better, but Brooklyn needs players on their roster who are ready to develop as they turn back into a contender.
While with the Philadelphia 76ers, Kings and Nets, Robinson had opportunities in which he could have shined on teams that had spots open. Neither of these three teams were competing for anything other than pride at any time during the season, but the former Jayhawk was unable to be a reliable player. If he cannot help a bad team, no good team out there will be looking for his services.
With no first-round draft pick this year, the future is not looking too bright in Brooklyn, making it that much more important that they use every available roster spot to develop players. There just is not room for a guy who has hit a plateau in his career. Robinson must be exiled from the franchise to promote a bright future.
