The Miami Heat are afraid that Chris Bosh will never be able to be cleared by team doctors and could be forced into medical retirement. For the second season in a row, Bosh was forced to call it a season early after blood clots were discovered.
Earlier this postseason, the two sides got into heated discussions because Bosh desperately wanted to help his team in the playoffs. Fortunately, they worked out an agreement in which the Heat would shut down Bosh for the rest of the postseason. There are reports out there that Bosh’s condition is so bad that he could die if he were to ever step on the court again.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, if Bosh doesn’t play again prior to February 9, 2017, the Heat and Player’s Union can have an independent doctor examine Bosh and give a recommendation to the NBA. If the doctor says Bosh isn’t healthy enough to play, the Heat can remove his contract from the books for salary cap purposes.
Bosh would still receive the three years and $75 million remaining on his contract, but the Heat would get some of the money back through insurance.
