The Miami Heat could have easily advanced in the playoffs if their big men were healthy against the Toronto Raptors, and that is why Pat Riley shouldn’t blow this team up quite yet. It might be prudent to let Hassan Whiteside walk in free agency, though. This would be wise if his issues in the locker room are intense enough to divide the team, but they shouldn’t allow Dwyane Wade to get out of their grasp.
The Heat should offer him a max contract, and then Wade can decide how many years he wants it to be for. He took the one-year deal last offseason, because he wanted to keep the franchise (and himself) financially flexible. They could come to the same arrangement again.
LeBron James floated out the idea earlier this season of a team featuring himself, Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, and there are ways that could happen given the salary cap’s recent increase. The Heat are one of the franchises that could make it possible, especially if the stars are willing to take a cut in pay like last time.
James might even be content with leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers if he delivers them their first championship in franchise history. These are all big questions going forward for the Heat, and it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out. However, they must keep Wade around to have any hope of winning the title in the next few seasons.
Chris Bosh‘s health will most likely end his career in the NBA, because it would be tragic if a player died on the court due to blood clots. There aren’t many teams that would choose to risk this possibility.
Wade, on the other hand, has had injury issues in the past, but the shooting guard proved in this postseason that he still has some gas left in the tank. He averaged 21.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in the playoffs, and the Heat must continue opening their checkbook to him due to his continued brilliance.
