Although the move was undoubtedly a surprise, a rift was said to be developing between Skiles and upper management, so it was thought to be in the best interest of all parties.

Orlando wasted no time in efforts to find their new leader. According to reports, the Magic have signed former Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel to take over the reins.

Vogel, 42, spent the past five seasons with the Pacers. He was outrageously fired by Larry Bird last month despite leading Indiana to a 45-37 regular season record, and an excellent effort in the playoffs, forcing seven games against the Toronto Raptors.
Vogel takes over a losing team (35-47) that isn’t far from contending for a playoff spot. Orlando has a solid core in place with Elfrid Payton, Victor Oladipo, dunk extraordinaire Aaron Gordon and underrated center Nikola Vucevic.
With the right additions made in free agency and Vogel at the helm, expect to see the Magic finish with a winning record in the new campaign.
