The Boston Celtics had a terrific season this year, but they were unable to win a playoff series. The team is on the verge of becoming a real contender, and they could get closer if they are able to sign one of these players during the 2016 NBA offseason.
5. SF Kevin Durant
Getty ImagesAlthough Boston is a major underdog to sign Durant, the team still absolutely has to pursue him. Durant would give them the superstar they need, and his excellent scoring coupled with the Celtics' defense would make the team a legitimate contender.
4. SG Eric Gordon
Getty ImagesIt’s no secret that the Celtics could use some extra scoring off the bench, and Gordon could become an elite sixth man if he can stay healthy. He would be a good fit with the second unit, and the team may be able to buy low on him.
3. C Hassan Whiteside
Getty ImagesWhiteside is a strong center who has the potential to develop into a franchise cornerstone. He also may not be the best fit for the Celtics given other available players on the market and his projected salary. Still, they need to pursue him.
2. C Bismack Biyombo
Getty ImagesThe Celtics need a rim protector and Biyombo would be an excellent fit with the team. His great defense, stellar rebounding and never-ending energy would fit Brad Stevens' system perfectly. At age 24, Biyombo still has a lot of room for growth.
1. SG Nicolas Batum
Getty ImagesBatum is an underrated player who would be a terrific fit with the Celtics. He is a great ball mover with excellent energy who can shoot the three. Ideally, the team could sign him and possibly move Avery Bradley in a trade for a superstar.
