The Boston Celtics have draft picks, a lot of cap space, and an excellent group of role players to work with this summer. They have some very talented perimeter defenders, an exciting scorer at point guard, a group of versatile big men, and an intelligent young coach who brings out the best in them. What they need is a star who can take them to the next level, and luckily they have the right roster to help balance out any weaknesses that this star might bring with them.
5. Kyle Korver
Getty ImagesHe may not be a star, but Korver is still one of the best pure shooters in the league. He could come off the bench to help spread the floor, and the team would have the right players around him to make it work.
4. Kevin Love
Getty ImagesLove’s scoring ability would fit right in, and the team would have enough athleticism and defense around him to cover his deficiencies. He could put up bigger numbers, although it would take a lot to get him.
3. Jahlil Okafor
Getty ImagesThe 76ers have a lot of big men, and the Celtics have the assets to trade for Okafor. Okafor has proven that he can score on the block, and Stevens might be the right guy to get the most out of him on defense.
2. Chris Bosh
Getty ImagesBosh has not always been appreciated over his career, but his versatility and scoring ability would allow coach Stevens to utilize him all over the court. It would also save the Heat some money for other free agents, but health and age are concerns.
1. Marc Gasol
Getty ImagesIt would be hard to convince the Grizzlies to trade Gasol, but they could choose to go in full rebuild mode if Mike Conley leaves. Gasol’s skills in the post and defensive ability would make this a tough Celtics team to beat.
