The Golden State Warriors might win Game 7 to make this a moot point, but they deserve to lose the 2016 NBA Finals. The first reason is Draymond Green. The Warriors were upset about the suspension after his altercation with LeBron James, but they were unsurprisingly quiet after Green didn’t get suspended for his windup groin kick to Steven Adams. That move should’ve resulted in two games on the pine for Draymond and the end of Golden State’s season; however, the NBA was too cowardly to go through with it.
Green being banned from Game 5 was simply delayed karma.
The second reason they have earned a loss in this series is Stephen Curry. He has been abysmal by the standard set during the regular season; he is getting outplayed by Kyrie Irving after all, and that isn’t acceptable for the unanimous NBA MVP. Curry also put his team in jeopardy by throwing his mouthpiece at a fan after fouling out of Game 6. The NBA only fined him for that action, but it could have hit a referee. That would’ve changed things. If the Warriors hadn’t gained home-court advantage by winning 73 games in the regular season, then they might be in serious trouble right now.
LeBron James is the last reason Golden State has bad mojo in this series. He is having a phenomenal run, and he should be the Finals MVP regardless of Sunday’s outcome. He leads both teams in each of these categories with 181 points, 68 rebounds, 51 assists, 16 steals and 13 blocks. This is absolutely astounding, and then you must factor in that only two squads have ever forced a Game 7 after being down 3-1 in the Finals.
It hasn’t even been mentioned yet that James came home to bring the Cleveland Cavaliers their first championship in franchise history. This was an admirable mission, and LeBron has his team one win away from that goal. The Warriors could prevail in the game on Sunday despite all of these points, but they deserve to be humbled this weekend.
