Nobody thought the Chicago Bulls had it in them to pull the trigger and send Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, but they surprised everyone and did it anyway. And now, if he can stay healthy, the Knicks will be a dangerous team in 2016-17.
Sure, get your laughs in now, but would you bet against a healthy Rose and a possibly rejuvenated Carmelo Anthony in an Eastern Conference that’s still a tad weak at the knees? I wouldn’t and neither should you.
We all know that Rose has not been the picture of health over the past few seasons, and that was one of the factors that played in the Bulls trading away their former franchise player. But Rose has been working his way back to health and could very well be revitalized in new surroundings.
The same goes for Anthony, who was becoming disenchanted with the Knicks floundering under missed playoff promises, and, adding insult to injury, watching his former teammates take home an NBA crown this season.
Now, he and the millions of Knicks fans out there have a reason to believe that better days are ahead.
With Rose and Anthony, the Knicks finally have a one-two punch that can compete with the best the East has to offer. Throw in the rise of Kristaps Porzingis and you could very well have the makings of a big three in the Big Apple.
With Rose on board, it shows that GM Phil Jackson is tired of missing the playoffs and wants to give the hungry Knicks fans something to be optimistic about heading into 2016-17. He delivered in a big way, and if Rose can be at least half the player he was before injuries wrecked his career, winning may once again make a return to Madison Square Garden next season.
