The worst kept secret in the NBA was made public knowledge by New York Knicks president Phil Jackson at his press conference on Friday.
Jackson offered many different insights on the team’s future plans, but the one most folks were intrigued by is his intent to trade Carmelo Anthony over the summer.
The direct quote is pretty rough.
“We’ve not been able to win with [Anthony] on the court at this time. I think the direction with our team is that he’s a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship.”
So the cat’s out of the bag and the Knicks will be looking to move Anthony, a player with a no-trade clause who would have to waive that in order to be dealt.
That severely limits the number of potential suitors for him, so this saga could drag on long into the offseason for a team just looking to pick up the pieces and rebuild.
