Miami (FL) and head coach Jim Larranaga landed their second verbal commitment from the class of 2013 on Friday night. Davon Reed popped for the Hurricanes, announcing his decision via Twitter.
“After a very long process, I have decided to commit to the University of Miami!!!” Reed tweeted on Friday.
Reed, who stands at 6-foot-6, joins DeAndre Burnett among the Hurricanes’ commitments. Burnett is a 6-foot-1 guard out of Miami Gardens, Florida.
Just last month, Reed made the decision to trim his list to three finalists and focus on his official visits this fall. In addition to Miami, Wake Forest and Xavier were the other two squads that made the cut.
Reed visited Wake Forest earlier this month before taking an official visit to Miami last weekend. Following an in-home visit with the Demon Deacons on Monday, Reed made his decision in favor of the Hurricanes on Friday.
Earlier this week, Miami lost out on their chances to land fellow 2013 recruit, Kameron Williams. Williams committed to Ohio State on Tuesday.
While Reed is a very nice addition for the Hurricanes, his impact may be felt before he steps on campus for the 2013-14 season. According to a report from SNY.tv‘s Adam Zagoria, Reed is looking to bring along with him some additional 2013 talent. Reggie Cameron, Josh Hart, and Austin Colbert were listed as his three targets. In fact, both Hart and Cameron will take official visit to Miami next week, while the Hurricanes are among those in continued pursuit of Colbert.
With a decision of his own out of the way, Reed can now focus on his senior season at the high school level. A native of Princeton, New Jersey, Reed currently attends the Princeton Day School (NJ).
Reed is listed at No. 97 overall by Rivals.
