On Monday, Texas A&M doubled their class size, adding their second verbal commitment for 2013.
Davante Fitzgerald announced his pledge in favor of the Aggies, joining the previously committed Derrick Griffin, who committed to Texas A&M back in April.
As the Aggies prepare for their first season in the SEC in 2012-13, head coach Billy Kennedy is looking to get the program back on track after a lackluster 14-18 season ago. The Aggies failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament last spring, ending a streak of six consecutive seasons.
Since taking over the program, Kennedy has been able to create some quick work on the recruiting trail, welcoming top-100 prospects J’Mychal Reese and Alex Caruso this season. Fitzgerald and Griffin will join the program for the 2013-14 season.
Fitzgerald was in attendance for the Aggies’ blowout victory over South Carolina State this past weekend. Texas A&M’s football squad won the contest 70-14. A decision was given to the A&M staff prior to returning home.
At 6-foot-7, Fitzgerald has tremendous size on the wing. The Georgia native had been receiving plenty of interest from a number of area schools, including Clemson, Auburn, Georgia and Ole Miss among others.
Fitzgerald currently attends Tucker H.S. (Ga.), where he is considered among the top prospects from the Peach State.
Looking ahead to the 2013-14 season, the Aggies incoming freshman class, including both Reese and Caruso, should instantly help Kennedy’s transition forward. Fitzgerald has the potential to also impact the Aggies’ back court down the line in the SEC once he is on campus.
During his time on the AAU circuit, Fitzgerald ran with the Georgia Tornadoes.
