Last night, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman was in Oxford to watch the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Ole Miss Running Rebels.
News began to spread Sunday night when senior forward Murphy Holloway tweeted to his followers:
Just got the word from MORGAN FREEMAN that he will be at out game TUESDAY against UK #RebelNation

Had this game been at Kentucky, many would have seen a different celebrity in the crowd–Ashley Judd. For fans at Ole Miss, a celebrity sighting is something they’ve never really experienced before–certainly not for basketball. Freeman and Judd have been linked in the past as well–both appeared in 1997’s Kiss the Girls and 2002’s High Crimes.
Freeman was raised in Greenwood, MS–roughly 90 miles from No. 16 Ole Miss’ Oxford campus. He currently resides in Charleston, MS which is only an hour from campus. At least he only drove an hour to watch the Running Rebels get thumped by the Wildcats, 87-74.
Freeman seems to have enjoyed himself despite the loss–he was photographed at halftime with a few Ole Miss cheerleaders by Nick Birdsong of Alabama.com.
Will Freeman remain on the Rebels bandwagon or was this a one-and-done? His winning percentage is .000 and the Rebels dropped their first game since December 22nd and snapped a nine-game win streak. It also marked their first loss in the SEC this season.
The Rebels head on the road to Gainesville to take on No. 4 Florida before returning home to face in-state rival Mississippi State. We’ll see if Morgan Freeman makes the trip to Oxford again.
