Day two of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament is in the books and now only four teams remain alive for a chance at the NCAA Tournament.
So far there have been no upsets or runs within the OVC Tournament, as all four of the top seeds gear up for their semifinal contests on Friday night. Both Belmont and Murray State have been waiting patiently as the one and two seeds within the bracket, respectively, but now the action will heat up as both Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State advanced with Thursday night victories.
Tennessee State scored 88 points in their victory over Morehead State on Thursday night, effectively ending Sean Woods‘ first season as the head man for the Eagles. Aided by a 24-point performance from Jordan Cyphers, the Tigers move forward as the league’s fourth overall seed and will face Belmont in the semifinal round.
The Bruins are certainly considered the favorite within the Ohio Valley Conference and are already gaining some publicity as a potential Cinderella. The Tigers however, have the capability of quieting things and forcing the committee to make a decision regarding Belmont should they pull off a monster upset in the semifinal round.
As for the other side of the bracket, Eastern Kentucky advanced to face Murray State following an 84-69 win over Southeast Missouri State. Eric Stutz finished the contest with 22 points, while grabbing ten rebounds in the process to complete his double-double. The Colonels defeated Murray State by 12 points back in early January, a game that represented their only meeting during the regular season.
