Like many others, I often find myself poking fun of Bo Ryan for his tendency to be a little grumpy. The Wisconsin Badgers coach has had a lot history in the world of college hoops — not all of which has been in a positive light. Ryan may be best known for his standoffish demeanor, although, there is plenty more to the man than blocking transfer requests.
I think it is easy to sometimes forget that any public figures are actually just people. It has become increasingly easy to poke holes in a person’s flaws from a distance. While we are busy doing that we tend to forget of all the good to great things they may have done in their life. Ryan he has done some great things that are not directly tied to just winning basketball games.

Recently, Ryan received the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Champion Award. It is given out each year to a coach who goes above and beyond in his activities to help aid in cancer research and funding. So far, Ryan has helped raise well over $1.5 million to help the American Cancer Society.
The news is nearly a week old, however, it is important enough to highlight Ryan’s good deeds if we are going to continue to try to show him in a negative light. It would be unfair to continue to bash him for other things if we were not going to point out some of the great things he has done along the way — which doing all the work he has for cancer, obviously qualifies as such.
Ryan can be a grump, but like it or not, we can’t ignore all the good he has done for cancer. Hooray good deeds!
