Florida State Seminoles Start And End Season With Loss To Mid-Major

JD Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida State Seminoles entered the 2012-13 college basketball season with high expectations after having a very good season the previous year. However, Florida State was very disappointing throughout the year and started and ended the season with a loss to a mid-major team.

The Seminoles opened the season with a loss to South Alabama. Who is South Alabama and why did this team even have a shot against Florida State? Although both are good questions, they still are likely a mystery to some. The Jaguars finished the season with a 17-13 record. May I remind you or let you know for the first time, that this team plays in the Sun Belt Conference.

South Alabama had no business winning that game, since it was played at Florida State and the Seminoles do play in the ACC. However, upsets do happen–obviously.

Well, the season never really got better for the Seminoles and they ended the year with an 18-16 overall record. However, it would only be fitting if they lost to a mid-major to close out the season.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs pulled off the “upset” in the NIT. The only reason I look at it like that is because the Bulldogs had 27 victories on the season and they were technically a No. 5 seed in the NIT, while Florida State was a No. 4 seed.

This is definitely a season Florida State fans would like to forget, since it started the season just as badly as it finished and went from one of the best teams in the ACC to the middle of the pack in just one year.
