Andrew Wiggins is set to be one of the best players in the nation in the 2013-14 college basketball season, but he may not even be the best player in the Big 12.
Don’t get me wrong, Wiggins has a lot of upside and talent to him and he very well could be the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. However, until he actually hits the court and does his thing for the Kansas Jayhawks, he has proved nothing.

One player who has proved a lot in just one season is Oklahoma State‘s Marcus Smart. With another good season and a deep run in the tournament, Smart could very easily win Big 12 Player of the Year.
Another player that will challenge for that feat is Baylor Bears‘ Isaiah Austin. The list of good players goes on and on, but Wiggins has some competition when it comes to being the best player in the conference.
With that said, if Wiggins meets expectations and is as good as everyone says he will be, he will likely not only be the best player in the Big 12, but college hoops as well. I expect that he will have a good season with Kansas and will help it be one of the best teams in the country, but like I said before, Wiggins hasn’t proved anything yet.
After losing their starting five, the Jayhawks will look completely different in the upcoming season and Wiggins is going to be counted on a lot to lead this team to victory.
Still, Wiggins may not even be the best player in the conference.
