Where Will Quentin Snider Go After Backing Out from Louisville?

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

2014 four-star point guard Quentin Snider has decided to reopen his recruitment after being committed to the reigning national champs since August of 2011. Snider is a Louisville, KY native and plays for the local AAU team, the Louisville Magic. With all of these ties to the area, I’m a little surprised he is wavering on his commitment. Snider was only a freshman in high school when he decided to commit to Louisville, and is capable of being recruited at a high level. What is next for Snider and Louisville?

The decision to back out of his commitment may be a testament to the recruiting class Rick Pitino is bringing in. In many eyes, Snider may not have been able to compete with incoming point guards Terry Rozier and Chris Jones. Both players are four-star recruits and will log plenty of time on the floor if their games translate to the college level. For Snider, search for more playing time could have also laid heavy on his mind. In addition to the incoming freshman, coach Rick Pitino has two more guards waiting in the 2014 class. Shaqquan Aaron and JaQuan Lyle were both set to join Snider, and that sounds like way too many guards for one single team.

For Louisville, you have to think their first call is going to be to Australian product Dante‘ Exum. During the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Exum astonished a huge crowd in the Rose Garden with his size and speed. Exum stands at 6-foot-6 and is a point guard by nature. He was literally running past guys like Kentucky commit Andrew Harrison on his way to the basket. Without Snider in 2014, the door for Exum could be wide open if he wants to walk through and come out a Cardinal.

It is not immediately clear which schools will be the front-runners for Snider due to the length of time he has been committed to LouisvilleIndianaMichigan and Michigan State all expressed interest during his first round of recruitment. Snider has proven himself worthy of his ranking on the AAU circuit and leading his high school team to the state finals last season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him commit to another school because of how fierce the competition for playing time will be. If Exum commits, Snider will never wear a Louisville jersey.
