The Akron Zips manged to make the 2013 NCAA Tournament as a No. 12 seed. One of their best players will be coming back for the 2013-14 college basketball season and that is Demetrius Treadwell.
Treadwell was the second leading scorer on the team this past season, averaging 11.5 points per game. He also grabbed the most boards, averaging 7.9 rebounds per game.
As you can imagine, he is a key piece for the Zips and he will have to be even better in the upcoming season with Zeke Marshall no longer being on the team.
Treadwell is not going to drain three after three or anything like that, since he did not take a single three-point shot last season, but he still was pretty good from the field, shooting 51 percent. It is important to note that the 6’7” forward also averaged 1.6 assists per game.
With more playing time, his numbers would clearly go up and he could be one of the best players in the Mid-American. Speaking of which, Akron managed to win the conference tournament and they tied Ohio with a 14-2 record during the regular season this past year.
Matching the 26 wins that the Zips had last season will be a tough feat, but it is definitely not impossible. If this team plans on dancing once again, Treadwell will have to have an even bigger season. Winning the conference would help as well, since the Mid-American is not known for getting a bunch of teams in the dance on a yearly basis.
Whether the case, it should be an exciting season for both Treadwell and Akron.
