The VCU Rams will be returning plenty of talent for the 2013-14 college basketball season and this could be head coach Shaka Smart‘s best team yet. With that, the Rams are right where they should be in a recent power ranking.
ESPN ranked them first in a power ranking of the Atlantic 10.
Treveon Graham and Juvonte Reddic will both be back, among other players. Graham averaged 15.1 points per game last season and 5.8 rebounds per game. Reddic put up 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. They were the top two leading scorers from this past year’s team and they were also the top two rebounders.
Many other players will be returning as well.
VCU may have not went on a deep run in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, but it did earn a No. 5 seed. Unfortunately, the Rams had to play the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan won easily and eventually went on to play in the national championship game.
Still, VCU was one of the best teams in the A 10 and that will be the case again this season. However, they are the front-runners for a conference title and ESPN seems to agree with that.
Behind them in this power ranking were the Saint Louis Billikens. La Salle came in at No. 3 and Massachusetts at No. 4. These three teams will definitely challenge for a conference title.
The depth of VCU will be great in the upcoming season and Smart might not only help coach the Rams to an A 10 title, but he might also coach his team to a deep run in the dance.
