The Saint Mary’s Gaels will look different without Matthew Dellavedova in the 2013-14 college basketball season, but life goes on or at least it has to in college hoops. Luckily, Beau Levesque will be back for another season.
With more playing time, Levesque could really shine. Last season he only averaged 23 minutes per game, but he still scored 10.6 points per game and grabbed 4.4 boards per game. It is important to note that the season before he was only playing 9.8 minutes per game.
The 6’6” forward can be lethal from behind the arc with some more attempts. He shot 44.7 percent from long range last season and made 46 threes in the process. He also shot 49.8 percent from the field.
His three-point shooting ability will be huge in the 2013-14 season since Dellavedova will no longer be on the team. Dellavedova made 86 threes last year and his production will surely be missed, along with his leadership and many other things.
Saint Mary’s is coming off of an NCAA tournament appearance where it was a No. 11 seed. However, it did finish with an overall record of 28-7 and finished 14-2 in the WCC. The Gonzaga Bulldogs were the team that finished in front of them in the conference standings. Luckily for the Gaels, the Bulldogs will be losing some talent and should not be as good as it was last season–earned a No. 1 seed in the Big Dance.
Regardless, Levesque is going to play a big role and he very well could be the leading scorer. However, more playing time will be a must and he has to keep up that great shooting percentage from the three-point line.
