The Virginia Cavaliers had the talent to make the NCAA tournament last season, but they didn’t. Their non-conference schedule was in question, but that should not be the case this year.
For starters, the Cavaliers will play plenty of tough teams, such as Wisconsin, VCU and Tennessee. All three of those teams should make the dance in the upcoming season.
VCU could have its best team yet, Wisconsin will compete for a Big Ten title once again and Tennessee has enough talent to compete with Florida and Kentucky–possibly beat them.
Virginia will also play Northern Iowa and Davidson. Not the best resume builders in the world, but they will definitely do.
The Cavaliers have to take advantage of a tougher non-conference schedule and they have to win big games and not lose to easy opponents. That is what NCAA tournament teams tend to do on a yearly basis.
Virginia finished last season with a 23-12 record and an ACC record of 11-7. Still, that was not good enough to dance. This team has way too much talent to not make it in the 2013-14 season. So many players will be returning, which includes the top two scorers from last year.
Virginia has a good enough team to compete for a conference title. The ACC gains three Big East teams, so that is saying a lot. Instead of just searching for wins in conference play, the Cavaliers need to take care of business and beat some of the tougher opponents in their non-conference schedule.
