The Southern Miss Golden Eagles‘ non-conference schedule may not be the toughest, but the Louisville Cardinals matchup definitely highlights it.
Southern Miss will take on Louisville on Nov. 29. The Cardinals are coming off of a national title and will be good enough to repeat. That alone will make this contest very tough for the Golden Eagles, but the game will also be played on the road for them.
There really aren’t a whole lot of other games to note on the schedule. However, Southern Miss will take on Western Kentucky and Morehead State during the season.
Other than the game against Louisville, the Golden Eagles could run the tables. Upsetting the Cardinals would be huge, but the game is on the road for Southern Miss and once again, it is against the Louisville Cardinals.
Southern Miss will likely be the favorite to win the Conference USA to open the season. The team can thank Memphis for that one as the Tigers will no longer be in the conference. It will still have its fair share of talent, though, so we have to give it some credit.
The Golden Eagles finished last season with a 27-10 record and a conference record of 12-4. They finished second in the conference standings, but still were four games behind the Tigers.
People can and probably will circle the matchup against Louisville because it will be the best team Southern Miss will play all season long. It may not be the most important game of the year, but a win against the Cardinals would go a long way. Regardless, this team very well could be tournament bound in the 2013-14 season, but it will likely have to win its conference.
