The Massachusetts Minutemen have been one of the biggest surprises so far in the 2013-14 college basketball season. However, they will be on upset alert when they take on the Florida State Seminoles on Dec. 21.
Florida State was supposed to have a down year, but they have been pretty good so far. The Seminoles’ record is 7-3, but those losses came against tough competition. Florida State lost by two points in overtime against Michigan, one point against Florida and by 10 against Minnesota.
However, it already beat a very talented VCU Rams team by 18 points.
Massachusetts is a perfect 10-0 on the season. Some of the Minutemen’s biggest wins came against New Mexico, LSU and BYU. This team may be the favorite coming in, but Florida State should not be taken lightly.
Both teams probably want to enter conference play on a good note and winning this game would certainly help with that. This is Florida State’s last challenge until ACC play, unless if you think Charleston Southern is a challenge. Now that I said that, the Buccaneers will probably pull off the upset.
The Minutemen have two more tests before Atlantic 10 play and one of those games is, of course, against the Seminoles. The other is against Providence on Dec. 28.
Massachusetts is ranked. It is considered one of the best mid-majors in the country right now. The Minutemen are also the favorite coming into the matchup against Florida State. Still, they are on upset alert against a Seminoles team that has surprised us so far, despite the three losses.
