Surprise, surprise. The Kentucky Wildcats are the No. 1 team in the nation to start the 2014-15 college basketball season.
Considering the Wildcats made the title game last season, plenty of talent returns and plenty of talent is set to join the team, this is without a doubt the right move.
Teams like Arizona, Duke and Wisconsin could have definitely made a case for the top spot in the rankings, but not as good of a case as John Calipari’s squad.
Not only is his team arguably the most talented in the country, but it has the most depth and so much SIZE as well.
Without getting into too much detail, the Harrison twins could be the shortest players in the starting lineup … at 6-foot-6. There are a couple of 7-footers on the team as well.
For all of those fans out there who are bickering and moaning about Kentucky entering the season as the No. 1 team yet again, just remember this: The preseason poll is nothing more than a hype machine.
The Wildcats have entered the season with very high rankings the last couple of years. In 2012-13, the team didn’t even make the NCAA tournament, yet it started at No. 3 in the rankings. Last year, the team, of course, started No. 1, but didn’t look anything near the top team in the country until the Big Dance actually started.
With that said, this Kentucky team could be one of Calipari’s best teams yet. That is at least the case in terms of size, talent and everything else we touched upon already.
Should be an amazing season regardless — college basketball never disappoints.
