The Ohio State Buckeyes have started the 2014-15 college basketball season strong, dominating in their first five matchups and defeating every opponent by at least 11 points. The Buckeyes’ lone non-cupcake opposition, the Marquette Golden Eagles, fought hard, but were overwhelmed by one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball.
However, we’ll find out how good Ohio State actually is on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when the Buckeyes take on the No. 6 ranked Louisville Cardinals in Louisville.
The Cardinals have cruised to a 5-0 start after their opening season domination of the Minnesota Golden Gophers and don’t look like they will be slowing down anytime soon. As the second best rebounding team in the nation, Louisville maintains possession of the ball constantly and forces opponents to make mistakes. This team may not boast the biggest names in college basketball, but they win games.
The matchup to watch in this game is between Ohio State’s Shannon Scott and whichever guard Rick Pitino decides to put on him. Averaging 10.4 assists per game, Scott will have a major say in the outcome of this game. Obviously, Montrezl Harrell will have an opportunity to make his mark on the game, but it’s the other Cardinals players that must step up.
Unfortunately for Ohio State, I don’t think they are at a point where they can stop Louisville just yet. Expect a different story if these two teams meet in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, but as of now the Cardinals win this one.
Louisville 86, Ohio State 78
