How Many SEC Teams Will Make the NCAA Tournament?
Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports
After another poor non-conference schedule performance by the SEC, it's time to ask the question, how many SEC teams will make the NCAA tournament? Right now, the SEC only has one lock for the postseason in the Kentucky Wildcats. How many of their conference mates can join them in the NCAA tourney?

The Case For the Tide: The Crimson Tide played a good Wichita State team to the final possession and own quality wins over UCLA and Arizona St. A SOS ranked 86th won't hurt either.
The Case Against the Tide: Alabama's biggest win, UCLA, has a record of 8-6 and was mauled in record fashion by Kentucky. A blowout loss to Xavier and miracle win over App St won't help.
Prediction: NIT
Arkansas

The Case For the Hogs: A quick 6-0 start, including a win over a preseason Top 25 SMU squad, propelled the Razorbacks all the way up to No. 18 in the country. The Hogs have one of the more impressive resumes of the entire SEC.
The Case Against the Hogs: A loss to ACC bottom feeder Clemson? The Hogs have an SOS of 104 and have a loss against one of the worst teams in the ACC.
Prediction: Dancing!
Auburn

The Case For the Tigers: They still have a shot to win the SEC Title?
The Case Against the Tigers: What do Tulsa, Coastal Carolina and Clemson all have in common? They all own wins over this Auburn squad, and the Tulsa game wasn't even close. Bruce Pearl is a heck of a coach, but he isn't a miracle worker.
Prediction: Not a chance
Florida

The Case For the Gators: This team is coached by a man who has won two National Championships and has the talent to be the second best team in the SEC. A tough OOC schedule will help this team in SEC play.
The Case Against The Gators: While Florida may have scheduled tough OOC, they failed to win a single one. The Gators are lacking a signature win.
Prediction: NIT
Georgia

The Case For the Bulldogs: The Bulldogs have an SOS ranked 9th in the country and an RPI of 19. A win over Seton Hall gives the Bulldogs a quality OOC win. They currently have no "horrible" losses.
The Case Against the Bulldogs: The loss to Georgia Tech could end up costing UGA in the long run. Can Georgia win enough SEC games with a tough road schedule?
Prediction: NIT
Kentucky

The Case For the Wildcats: They will be undefeated come Selection Sunday, and will have an easy time with whatever poor soul gets seeded as their 16 seed matchup.
The Case Against the Wildcats: Calipari leaves for the Cleveland Cavaliers and everyone transfers. Unless they lose all of their SEC games, this team is going to the tourney.

The Case For the Tigers: LSU has a road win over No. 18 West Virginia and is on an eight-game winning streak heading into conference play. The loss to Old Dominion doesn't look so bad.
The Case Against the Tigers: Another SEC that lost to Clemson, one of the worst teams of the ACC. The Tigers have a relatively easy road schedule and can't afford to lose to any mediocre teams.

The Case For the Bulldogs: The Bulldogs had a promising start to the season, winning five straight, but losses to McNeese State and Arkansas State mean this team has to win the SEC tournament.
The Case Against the Bulldogs: McNeese State and Arkansas State handled this team at home. Enough said.
Prediction: A new head coach?

The Case For the Tigers: Win the SEC tournament.
The Case Against the Tigers: They have been blown out by all real competition they have faced this year, and the loss to the UMKC Kangaroos buried the Tigers' season before it even began.
Prediction: Nope. At least they won the SEC East!
Ole Miss

The Case For the Rebels: Wins over a ranked Creighton team and a quality win over Cincy helped the Rebels forget about a rotten start to the season.
The Case Against the Rebels: Ole Miss had a rotten opening to the season with a loss to Charleston Southern and has an RPI of only 83. The home loss to Western Kentucky stings as well.
Prediction: Outside shot at NIT

The Case For the Gamecocks: Frank Martin is a heck of a coach. A seven-game winning streak and a huge win over a Top 10 Iowa State team shows how far this team has come.
The Case Against the Gamecocks: The two early season losses to Charlotte and Akron could come back to hurt the Gamecocks in the long run. An SOS of 112 certainly won't turn any heads.

Tennessee

The Case For the Vols: Great signature win over a ranked Butler squad and another good win over Kansas State give Tennessee a good resume. All of the losses acquired by the Vols come from fellow Power 5 teams and Marquette.
The Case Against the Vols: Outside of the win against Butler, the Vols have failed to win or be competitive against quality competition. They tend to play down to competition.

Texas A&M

The Case For the Aggies: All of the losses the Aggies sustained during the non-conference come from teams that will likely make the NCAA tournament. They had a good win against New Mexico.
The Case Against the Aggies: Outside of the win against New Mexico, there are no signature wins on the resume. In a weak SEC, there are limited opportunities for the Aggies to build on a lackluster resume.
Prediction: Bubble Team
Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt

The Case For the Dores: Vanderbilt owns a blowout win over St. Louis and captured victories against B1G team Purdue, as well as a decent Yale squad. Vandy is one of only five teams from the SEC with 10 wins.
The Case Against the Dores: A loss to B1G bottom feeder Rutgers and lower tier ACC team Georgia Tech hurts Vanderbilt. The lack of a quality win will hurt come Selection Sunday.
Prediction: Bubble Team
