Matchup: Oklahoma State Cowboys (12-4) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (11-5)
The two teams from Oklahoma have been making some noise this year. The Sooners were expected to, and they were also expected to compete for a Big 12 title. The same thing cannot be said about the Cowboys, who lost a bunch of talent over the offseason.
However, Le’Bryan Nash and Phil Forte III returned, and both have been awesome to say the least.
What to Watch For
Forte and Nash. They are putting up a little under 18 points per game each. Other than those two, no other Cowboy is averaging in double figures. Needless to say, Oklahoma State will go as far as this duo takes it.
Buddy Hield is having a very productive season despite the fact that the Sooners already have five losses. He is averaging 17.1 PPG and 5.6 RPG. Hield has also scored 31 and 21 in back-to-back games. Surprisingly enough, both were losses for Oklahoma.
Prediction
The Big 12 is very, very competitive. Heck, it very well could be the best conference in college hoops, although the ACC can make a solid case as well. This isn’t a must-win game for either team, but if either one plans on winning the Big 12 title, it very well could be. In the end, both should find themselves in the NCAA tournament, but this game will be crucial for conference purposes.
I like Hield to drop another 20+ points in this one, and for the Sooners to come out on top. For that to happen, Oklahoma is going to have to contain Forte and Nash.
