The unbeaten Virginia Cavaliers host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Thursday in an ACC matchup.
Virginia is 17-0, including 5-0 in the ACC. The Cavaliers are one of two unbeatens remaining in college basketball, along with the Kentucky Wildcats.
Head coach Tony Bennett and his team are outstanding on defense. Virginia allows opponents to score just 50.6 points per game, second in the nation behind only Kentucky.
Junior guard Justin Anderson leads the Cavaliers, scoring 14.5 points per game. Anderson shoots a scorching 52.7 percent from three-point range and is among the favorites for ACC Player of the Year.
Another junior guard, Malcolm Brogdon, is second on the team in scoring at 13.6 points per contest. Junior forward Anthony Gill averages 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per outing.
Georgia Tech was 9-3 through its first 12 games, but has hit a wall since then. The Yellow Jackets have now lost five straight games, all in the ACC, to fall to 9-8 overall. Each of the five ACC losses have been competitive, but Tech has been unable to make the plays down the stretch to get a victory.
Head coach Brian Gregory has two double-figure scorers on his team. Junior forward Marcus Georges-Hunt leads the team with a 12.9 points per game average. Forward Charles Mitchell scores 10.5 points and grabs 7.9 rebounds per outing.
There appears to be no reason that Virginia will not move to 18-0 in this game. The Cavaliers are more talented on both ends of the floor, and their suffocating defense will make it very difficult for Georgia Tech to score. If that wasn’t bad enough, the game is in Charlottesville, where Virginia hasn’t lost since December of 2013.
Final score prediction: Virginia 75, Georgia Tech 50
