Baylor vs. Oklahoma State: Game Preview, Prediction

After a surprising start to Big 12 play, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have fallen back towards the bottom of the conference standings as most expected coming into the season. They defeated no 2015 NCAA Tournament-bound teams in non-conference play, and, with their recent conference struggles, it looks like the tournament is out of their reach.

Next up for Oklahoma State will be the Baylor Bears, who the Cowboys will face at home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 9 p.m. on ESPN.

The Bears got a much-needed win over the Oklahoma Sooners after a six-game stretch that saw them lose three times, struggle against an NAIA school and barely scrap past two other teams. Baylor boasts the talent and the skill to make a deep 2015 NCAA Tournament run and should finish in the top half of the Big 12, despite their recent struggles.

However, Oklahoma State is a young team that continues to get better game after game, making them one of the most dangerous teams in the Big 12. The Cowboys have the talent to defeat top opposition in any matchup at any time, so opposing teams cannot overlook them.

This is exactly what I think will happen to Baylor. The Bears face the Texas Longhorns next in a crucial battle for conference positioning, and I don’t think the Bears are as good as advertised due to their lack of good non-conference wins and their tendency to fall apart towards the end of games. Give this game to Oklahoma State in an upset that shouldn’t really be an upset at all.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 67, Baylor 63
