Iowa State vs. Kansas: Game Preview, Prediction

The Big 12 is one of the most convoluted conferences in all of college basketball, and arguably the two best teams face off on Monday night as the Iowa State Cyclones travel to Allen Fieldhouse to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Iowa State have bounced back since their shock upset at the hands of the Texas Tech Red Raiders with back-to-back wins, including a close game with the Texas Longhorns and a blowout over the TCU Horned Frogs. The Cyclones have stumbled against a few weaker teams this season, Texas Tech and the South Carolina Gamecocks, but all of these games have been on the road or at a neutral location. Unfortunately, this doesn’t bode well when they go to face a Kansas team that is undefeated at home this season.

Kansas have won four-straight since their loss to the Cyclones away from home and look to be rounding into NCAA tournament form. If they can get past Iowa State on Monday night, then they should cruise to the Big 12 regular season title and a top-two seed in the 2015 NCAA tournament.

Even though the Jayhawks should win this one, don’t count out Georges Niang and the Cyclones. Niang is an offensive powerhouse who can carry the team on his back at times; something that Kansas doesn’t have. Unfortunately, I don’t see Iowa State winning at Allen Fieldhouse. This could easily be an upset, because both of these teams are legitimate 2015 NCAA tournament contenders, but give this one to Kansas because they’re at home.
